Touch Surgery Beta Feedback
A few other bugs and suggestions
Hey TS team,
I found some things to pay attention to while playing with phase 2 of the carotid endarterectomy in learn mode.
The first is that sometimes when you use an instrument that requires moving a green dot into a white circle, sometimes either the green dot or white circle will be too far off the page and you can't complete the task - it necessitates a left swipe to get to the next step instead of interactively moving the instrument. This occurs late in phase 2 of the above procedure (can't remember which step).
While trying to get back to said step to specify which one it was, I was swiping through the procedure rather quickly, which led to the touch surgery logo "loading" screen to come up and not progress past that. I tried slowing down on subsequent runs but was thwarted by this each time. Haven't been able to get past halfway since then.
This led me to another usability point. Might be nice if, from the surgery screen during a procedure, there was a menu you could select and drop down, which would provide each step of the procedure so you could jump to that step by tapping it in the menu. That might slow us to find bugs better (as in this case), and might let users review very specific parts of a surgery in general use.
Loading problem
I found a small bug in the beta app. I have been trying to access individual phases of the anterior cervical discectomy and fusion, and when I try, it briefly shows the touch surgery logo spinning as it does when loading, and then goes back to the menu for said procedure.
I then tried to access different procedures in the neurosurgery section, and clicking the arrow on the far right by the procedure names yielded the same result for ACDF and carotid endarterectomy, but took me to the beginning of the surgery like normal in the acute trauma craniotomy and thoracic epidural tumor procedures.
I tried closing and re-opening the app and this did not fix the problem.
I looked at several operations in the general surgery section, which all worked both from the main list as well as from individual selections on the "learn" button for individual phases.
Thanks!
Quick suggestion for usability
I had a few observations and suggestions while beta testing the new app. When I first started a procedure I wasn't sure what the interface was - it took me a second to realize that swiping left moves to the next step while swiping right moves back a step. Normally you tap on the old version, and tapping didn't work when I first started, so I tried to swipe to directly interface with the patient which didn't work either. I probably overcomplicated it, but it might be good to have a quick explanation of that when you first start a surgery!
Another thing - for multi phase surgeries, I enjoy that I didn't need to download each individual part. That was tedious in the old app. On the new version it might be useful to have a prompt that asks if I want to continue on to the next part of the surgery. Being at work I can only get a couple of steps in here and there to learn, and it might be good if I could easily tell when I reach a stopping point!
I was noticing these on the ACDF sim so it might be different for other surgeries. Those are just a couple observations; I'll keep testing and send other info in. Thanks!
Mastectomy problems
I am having problems taking the mastectomy breast removal test. I open the page, but when I press the start button nothing happens. The only option that works is the leave assessment option.
Beta is nice but some improvement needed
So far the beta version is nice, I like the new look and how the modules work. However, some of the modules haven't been loading; the loading icon during modules (in between steps) is annoying; some of the buttons to complete an action is not clear as to the objective at hand. Overall, it looks to be promising just some minor fixes needed to make it more user friendly.
Anatomy Zoom & Labels
love the anatomy teaching slides!! Only thing I noticed was that the labels get cut off and I can't figure out how to zoom out to see them. Noticed this on the colorectal anatomy. thanks!
Not able to add photos to feedback
In attempting to submit feedback to the app creators, it crashed to the procedures selection page.
